Search for Tomorrow

One of the real strokes of luck i had in my last couple of years with CBS happened quite by accident. As CBS was rolling out a new internet platform and content management system for it’s CW stations, our corporate folks were encouraging us to hire at least 1 person to handle this at the local level. With the station still weighed down by an incredible amount of bad programming debt, we really didn’t want to add anyone else, so I volunteered to take care of it. How much work could it be? The answer - not to much, to start. But within 6 months, since I didn’t really have time to work on it during business hours, I was spending virtually every waking moment away from the office working on the web - something I can promise you was not happening with any of our other Station Managers. But what I didn’t fully realize at the time was that I was getting an incredible education - and laying the groundwork for what would become a major force at Davision Media.

Now, several years later, I am spending at least half of my time working on web content and design, and planning and executing SEM and SEO initiatives for our clients. What’s surprising the most, I think, is how this continues to grow in influence with our core media business. Yes, I still believe in radio and television, but the precision of the targeting and the scalability of the budgeting certainly makes PPC and SEM extremely attractive. This is particularly true with small businesses with very limited budgets.
